I hear this everytime, Marriage changes a lot of things. Those in it , want out and those who are out sometimes don’t want to take the plunge. Is it a new phenomenon? I dunno coz I grew up thinking everybody would get married except for the celibates and the religious. I guess not many are the former and definitely not many are lining up for the latter. So what is it? Was I disillusioned or have things really changed?
I married the boy I fell head over heels in love with, in my good ‘not so old’ days at Xavier’s. Noel and I have had to work hard at it. Standing the test of time, an even a long distance a relationship, there were times when the road seemed like it had a sign, STEEP SLOPE up ahead..I know we don’t see a sign like that here in Mumbai though we would need one and many more. It’s very much like that in any relationship. Caution is the word! Treat any relationship with care.
But then again, in an age of Fast Food and Faster cars, one seems to have lost that edge of nurturing, caring, taking time out, making adjustments, going away from a routine of sorts. And marriage is all about that. I know I haven’t got it all right. Here I may add, I am superstitious about saying anything too nice. But having three kids has changed a lot of things..priorities, sleep schedules, romance – time available for it and making the most of time, friendships, career, goals, money matters – I think i may have now become less selfish. I have become stronger. My kids have given me adulation, pure innocent love, pride in their antics, fascination at how they are and what they say. Noel and my kids have enveloped me in a world that’s made of soft feathers and candy floss, melted chocolate and crispies..Ummm!
It's not an easy road for the faint hearted but its worth every step you take . Ofcourse, that works when you find that one companion that makes the journey worth the while. So whether you are in it or out, My verdict from this side of the grass is that Marriage changes a lot of things. And I’m lovin it!
